Who are they? Associates are:
Baptized lay individuals who commit themselves to deepening their faith and witnessing the Gospel according to the Marian spirituality of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, and sharing with the community the Eucharistic and missionary charism of the Foundress Blessed Mary of the Passion, in the manner of Francis and Clare of Assisi.
Associates aim at promoting an open mind to all in personal and group commitment, prayer at the heart of the commitment, the practice of the evangelical Beatitudes in the universal mission, according to the Franciscan spirituality and charism fraternal life by witnessing Franciscan values of joy, peace and simplicity, solidarity and respect for creation
How it all began:
It was in 1896 that Blessed Mother Mary of the Passion wrote to her Community: ¨It would be useful to the cause of the Church that Mary also have missionaries in the world. Little by little that will come¨ The seed was sown. The search and initiatives begun by Blessed Mary of the Passion were the cataclysts for the founding of the Associates of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.
In Canada, the project of the lay associates of the FMM came into existence in 1992 as part of a movement highly encouraged by the Canadian Church.
