Provincial Chapter of Canada
15 - 21 july 2010
"Tell to this Generation: TO MARCH ON!"
After the ringing of the bells, the hymn, Sous le soufflé de l’Esprit, avance, opened the celebration. Two liturgical dances symbolized the celebration, one of which indicated through different colours the three stages of the Chapter preparation : Lent, Easter, Pentecost.
Each Superior was invited to place in a common container some earth she had brought from her community. All the soil was mixed together, signifying the unity and communion in the Province. Sister Lois Pereira, the Provincial of the US Province, also presented her soil to express collaboration between the two Provinces, especially with respect to the Far North.
Each delegate placed a plant brought from her community in a flower pot filled with the mixed soil. This plant symbolized the community and its mission, developing in union with the Project of the Province.
After receiving the blessing of the host community members, also participating in this opening celebration, the Chapter members went out in procession to the Chapter Room. They were preceded by members of the Provincial Council carrying lamps they placed at the feet of Our Lady in the Chapter Room.
Sister Simone Bastien, the Provincial Superior, thanked each one of the Chapter members. She drew their attention to the Word of God for the day, which was so appropriate: Lord, you will keep us in peace, for whatever we undertake, it is you who do all things for us. (Is. 26: 12)
