Soeur Carmelle CotéSister Carmelle Coté

Carmelle was welcomed to the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Convent in Quebec in 1949. Her career would be in education and pastoral catechesis in all walks of life. For over 25 years the Lord called her to go from East to West across Canada: St-Malo, Quebec, Winnipeg and St. Laurent, MB, Calgary AB and Mackenzie, BC.

Gifted for religious instruction, she obtained a Masters in Religious Sciences at the University of Ottawa. This became a precious tool in her mission in Tamale, Ghana, West Africa. In fact, she taught at the Seminary while she was Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Center.

The years went by. Sister Carmelle was asked to be Principal of St. Francis Secondary School in the bushland of Jirapa UWR. Always available, she enjoyed teaching the 350 girls assigned to her. Do we not say in Africa: "Educate a woman, and you educate the nation!"

A few years later, she went for a sabbatical and chose to study with the Dominicans at their renowned Institute in Montreal. She received a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Studies, and during this period also had the privilege of living four months in the Holy Land.

There she realized that her vision had been impaired by the burning sun of Africa. She was invited to remain in Canada.

Recognized as a resource person, she now shares her achievements with her sisters and for the benefit of. the Associates. Presently she has competently assumed the role of librarian for her community

As she celebrates her Diamond Jubilee this year, and as she passes on to others her rich experiences and training, she gives glory to God, the author of every gift.
