Jubilee on 2009 - Montreal - 60 years
Sister Émérylde Lapointe
Radiant with joy, along with her younger sister Bérangère and her fmm Sisters, Sister Émérylde is celebrating 60 years of religious life. Her whole being magnifies the Lord for having granted her to be born in the beautiful Gaspe Peninsula where everything speaks of Him, with relatives who are fundamentally Christian and true gifts of God.
In her vocation as a Franciscan Missionary, Émérylde was enterprising, and always available. The possibility of universal mission will be given to her through her many commitments that give her the occasion to come into contact with countless people. Seasoned cook, her talents and her heart render those whom she met happy, and her testimony was life-giving because her actions spoke eloquently. In our houses of Quebec, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Fort-Coulonge, etc. she was very happy and her services were always full of simplicity and joy.
Just imagine all that was required of her to provide for the daily preparation of three meals for hundreds and hundreds of pilgrims who came to Sainte Anne! All summer long, early each morning, queues of tourists would invade our hill to enjoy family style meals, prepared by Emerylde and her Sisters. The cooks started their task at 4:30 a.m. and left their service at 10:00 p.m. It goes without saying that it was their inner strength that permitted them to give service with such selfless dedication! Their practical and cheerful kindness, amidst multiple challenges, has written pages of Gospel for over 80 years!
In our various convents, Sister Émérylde, a woman with a big, good heart, dedicated herself without asking anything in return, until age and illness led her to live in the infirmary. There she visibly "offers herself for the Church." Gradually, she is losing her eyesight, her steps have become uncertain, but she is leading a very wonderful spiritual life. She bears her cross in silence, making it shine as brightly as the “Croix de Jacques Cartier in Gaspé”.
