Jubilee on 2009 - Montreal - 60 years
Sister Jeannette Mignault
After leaving her beloved village of Kamouraska, Jeannette joined the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in 1949. As a Novice, she was called to be a teacher in our primary school in St-Malo, Quebec. After 14 years of teaching, she took a nursing course, then went to Rigaud to teach nursing students.
Next she was called to be a missionary in Indonesia. She was in charge of the school in Jakarta where she taught religion and moral science in Jambi. On her return to Canada, always passionate about studies, she attended the University of Laval in Quebec City and St. Paul in Ottawa and was also involved in missionary animation.
At the request of the Archbishop of Ottawa, Sr. Jeannette studied Canon Law in order to work at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal in Ottawa, then in Calgary, as defender of the link to the causes of nullity of marriage. A new calling in 1989 led her to engage in parish pastoral work and the teaching of French to our young Sisters and some English-speaking university students.
Currently, she is spiritual leader for the Sisters in our Infirmary in Montreal. With tact and courtesy, she gives her time and energy for the good of the sick and she continues to stimulate our dear patients.
How to define such a career? A positive woman, Jeannette has always sought excellence for herself as well as for those she encountered.
In the twilight of her missionary journey, she admires the loyalty of her Master and Lord and reiterates the Magnificat of Mary. The words of our Foundress, Mary of the Passion, have become hers: "I am consecrated to God, my end is love."
