Jubilee on 2009 - Montreal - 70 years
Sister Maria St- Pierre
(The Sister herself speaks)
It was in Quebec City that I was received into the Novitiate in 1938. From the beginning of my religious life, I was called to live with great disponibility in the service of my sisters in different houses across Canada: Rigaud, Montreal, Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, St-Laurent, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick and Ottawa.
How I would have loved to be a missionary "ad extra"! My desire unfulfilled, I tried to live that dream at “home”. My training as a nurse beckoned me to give my Sisters the best of myself. At 90 years, I am still serving the Community of the Sacred Heart in Montreal. Foot care to the patients in the Infirmary is my main occupation.
One thing I was impressed by in my religious life, is the confidence that authority placed in me by giving me responsibilities I would never have thought of. This inspired in me courage and strength to perform the tasks of Assistant in Rigaud, Ottawa and Montreal and then Delegate to the General Chapter in Rome, etc.. ...
What gratitude do I not owe to Jesus, my Spouse, who has accompanied me and supported me during my 70 years of amazing Franciscan life. I have never regretted having chosen this way of life, and I give thanks a thousand times to our Lord.
In the evening of my life, I repeat: "Lord, you have done wonders for me, Holy is Your Name!"
